It seems like Coachella was only yesterday. Since this year's Lolla headliners (and then some) leaked long ago, we already knew about Beastie Boys, Depeche Mode, Jane's Addiction, Tool, Kings Of Leon, the Killers, Lou Reed, Decemberists, Neko Case, and Andrew Bird. Not too shabby. But almost too shabby. If that assortment of talent didn't convince you to attend, maybe this will: Animal Collective, Fleet Foxes, Deerhunter, Bat For Lashes, TV On The Radio, and Vampire Weekend. And an Animal Collective DJ set. Jane's Addiction Reunite In LA

Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins, Eric Avery, and Count Farrell performed together last night for the first time since ... well, the first time since April when they were hailed as godlike by NME. Last night's gig at downtown bar La Cita was longer, more intimate, and cost to attend. Buzzbands.la has some nice photos. We have videos of "Ocean Size" and "Whores." - Source

Something's Shocking: Eric Avery Decides He Can Deal With Being In Jane's Addiction For One Night

After the success of his great Lolla lineup, Perry Farrell has something else to hoot about: Original Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery has agreed to play a show with the band for the first time since 1991. Yes, right around the time "punk broke." It's for the U.S. NME Awards at the El Rey Theatre in L.A on 4/23, where the guys are receiving the "Godlike Genius Award." Past UK Godlike winners include The Clash, New Order, Primal Scream and Manic Street Preachers (UK). NME's reasoning for giving it to JA:

[They've] done more than any other band to introduce American alternative music to the mainstream, founding the touring Lollapalooza Festival and giving what frontman Perry Farrell refers to as the 'alternative nation' a real cultural focus and voice.

Before this Avery's rejected the idea of a reunion to work on his own post-Addiction sounds, a la Help Wanted, released a week ago on Dangerbird. Yeah, we've barely heard of it either. You could be forgiven for forgetting what a huge deal Jane's Addiction was the first time around, especially if you weren't there. They certainly haven't done anything since their 1991 demise to help keep our memories fresh [especially the atrocity that was "Kettle Whistle"] - though the first Porno for Pyros album does come close. Unfortunately, new album "Strays" does little to amend that. However, it's a vast improvement over, say, "Songs Yet To Be Sung" or the god-awful "Rexall".

War Tribute @ The Viper Room

Monday (Nov. 8) night at the Viper Room was host to a benefit jam with the classic rock band War. Things started out normal enough with the current lineup playing original War tunes, plus a few covers but then a few guests came to help out. The extra performers included: Afghan Whigs singer Greg Dulli on guitars, the Propellerheads on keyboards and Natalie Cole came to assist with vocals! A few weeks ago Perry Farrel joined them on stage at another benefit.
