My first post-Coachella update. Looking back it was a pretty damn good festival, probably one of the best ones as far as how well it was organized. The best year for music is too hard to determine. It might be my last one as I'm just tired of the allergies and now with the two weekends of Coachella and all the local shows, it's not worth the hassle. In anycase, here are this week's updates. UPDATED: Charlatans Drummer Passed Out and is now Diagnosed with A Brain Tumor

Last week the Charlatans were on tour in the US and at their Philadelphia stop, Jon Brookes collapsed on stage. A doctor in the audience actually came up and resuscitated Brookes and then he was rushed to the hospital.

He returned home and has to undergo treatment for a brain tumor. The band has released a statement confirming his condition and also announcing that they will continue the tour with a short-term replacement.

UPDATE: NME has also followed up on this story with the news that the Charlatans have announced that the Verve drummer, Pete Salisbury, will be joining them on several UK shows as a temporary replacement.

Charlatans Will Play 'Some Friendly' in London

I know I've beaten up the Charlatans in some of my past reviews, but I am excited to hear that they are playing their debut album, 'Some Friendly, in full at the Roundhouse in London. The show takes place on May 31 and will celebrate twenty years since the album came out. I would really like to see them do the same for 'Between 10th and 11th' which was my favorite Charlatans album.

As previously reported, the Charlatans are giving away their new album. Yes, it's free. Same with the fish-eyed Douglas Hart-directed video for first single "You Cross My Path." The grainy walkabout was shot throughout Los Angeles with ageless frontman Tim Burgess, his iPod, much air punching and finger pointing, that peerless bowl cut, and a stuffed raccoon. Also, right smack dab in the middle, note that TB's already pondering "the end." Not sure why, it's a solid track. - Source
