Lots of good stuff from the holiday weekend. Mainly the videos from the Primal Scream Screamadelica shows. Seeing them doing Loaded was pretty fuckin' awesome and it's something that I've never seen. The chances of a show like that coming to the US is pretty rare but damn. They should get together with Suede and knock it out.

We've only barely mentioned Freebass in the past, it was during Excellent Online's crappy "digg-wannabe-days" (sorry everyone, I now love reddit). Anyway, Freebass is a supergroup that features Peter Hook (New Order), Mani (Stone Roses, Primal Scream), and Andy Rourke (Smiths). It was a triple-bass supergroup. Yes, they now have a drummer and a singer too. Earlier this year they released their first EP, Two Worlds Collide, and their album, It's A Beautiful Life, in digital form only. Next week they're going to release the CD version of their EP and with that release, Andy Rourke is departing from the band. According tho their official site, "Andy Rourke was initially involved in the conception of the group and contributed to the EP and a few tracks on the LP , He is now living in NYC and will not be joining the band for live dates."

Oasis Update: Mani's Joining Noel Live & Liam is Misunderstood

Two bits of news from NME:

First up is that Noel Gallagher is playing the a show for the Teenage Cancer Trust later this month and he'll be joined by none other then Mani (from Primal Scream and Stone Roses fame.

Secondly, Liam snubbed Noel when he accepted an award for Best Brit Album and then threw the award in the crowd. Apparently, he was just misunderstood! He only thanked the band because all the news circulates around Liam and Noel and he "thought it was only right to mention to other lads who played on the album and the best fans in the world". And when he tossed his award into the crowd, "I thought it was a nice gesture to give this to the fans. Obviously it was misinterpreted as per usual."

Primal Scream to play 'Screamadelica' in London

Primal Scream will play their breakthrough album, "Screamadelica", in full at London's Olympia according to NME. If you don't recall, Screamadelica came out in 1992 and was quite the departure from the normal shoegaze/indie sound. At first I remember hating the record especially since I loved the single version of "Come Together" and "Loaded" so much. The album was more electronic then indie and that obviously had to do with the influences at the time as well as recruiting DJs Andrew Weatherall and Terry Farley.

Now I look back and have realized what an important album that was. And obviously I'm not the only one since the Royal Mail are now making stamps with the classic cover which you can buy.

I hate to be disrespectful, I mean, you are indie rock royalty, you have had some amazing bright spots in your 18 some odd years in pop. I still bow in deference to "Imperial", I have the lyrics to "Higher Than the Sun" on the wall next to me at work. (The boss loves that let me tell ya) and I'll be damned if "Kowalski" still doesn't make me wanna jump up and down and shout, but it seems that these things are best left to memories rather than slugging through high points in the latter half of your brilliant career in the half assed manner that you delivered to Irving Plaza last night.

Evil Heat Redux?

Alright, so PRIMAL SCREAM's last album did technically come out this winter in America... so this uber-delayed and uber-short US tour should come as no surprise. The Scream have confired 3 shows in NYC, one in San Fran and an appearance at Coachella. Feel free to scream foul at any time if you're not on either coast. FOUL! Despite the hit or miss attitude most people have about 'Evil Heat' no one can really deny that they're a fantastic live band, so... the 5 days they're willing to give us *lucky* Americans can be found on our tour page.

Primal Scream's Album Banned in America??

NME's reporting that the upcoming Primal Scream album will likely be banned in America due to a track called, Bomb the Pentagon. I can't see it being banned, maybe it won't be sold in Walmart's but I'm sure your local import record shop won't care. It's also important to note that the track is about the US foreign policy and was performed live before the September 11th attacks.

Unreleased Astralwerks Compilation, Rarewerks

Rarewerks from ASTRALWERKS? The label has just announced the release of a collection of rare, hard-to-find, and previously unreleased tracks from Astralwerks artists entitled "Rarewerks". Most of the tracks have not been available commercially anywhere in the world. Artists to be included are Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Primal Scream, Beta Band, and Basement Jaxx. The release is scheduled to be released January 23, 2001.
