Here's the story, courtesy of The NZ Herald: *Bjork, who is in Auckland to perform at the Big Day Out on Friday, tore photographer Glenn Jeffrey's shirt in half, after he photographed her arriving at 7.50am yesterday. Jeffrey, a news photographer of 25 years, said Bjork was accompanied by a man who asked him not take photographs. "I took a couple of pictures and I got about three or four frames of her ... and as I turned and walked away she came up behind me, grabbed the back of my black skivvy and tore it down the back. Medulla Schmulla

Well, news of a new BJORK record is bound to make someone happy. The album, titled 'Medulla', will be stocked onto your local record store shelves on August 31 courtesy of Elektra. As always Bjork worked with a wide variety of artists on this one from Matmos to Rahzel from The Roots to Mike Patton (formerly of Faith No More). (Damn... I wanted to hear more from Matthew Herbert.)

In a recent interview with W Magazine, Bjork leads us on a bit of a goose chase trying to figure out what the new record will sound like... "I just got really bored with instruments. I started doing everything with my voice. Then suddenly I didn't want to work with any musicians, which is a bit weird. I only wanted to work with vocalists." ... "I wanted the record to be like muscle, blood, flesh," she says, pumping her fist. "We could be in a cave somewhere and one person would start singing, and another person would sing a beat and then the next person sing a melody, and you could just kind of be really happy in your cave."

Hmm... an album sung in a cave with no instruments named after bone marrow, how... Bjork.

What do you get when you put thousands of Bjork fans on an island?

It could very easily be the set up for a really bad joke or the opening line of a trailer for an even worse movie. And at times during ferry ride to and the 2-plus hour wait to get off of Olympic Island, it did indeed seem like I was in the middle of "Escape from Bjork Island" - coming soon to a theater near you!

There's a new album on the way from the world of pixiedust and hot springs. According to BJORK's website the new material is currently being referred to as "The Late Album" and you can hear a snippet of Bjork in the studio on the website. There's no release date set yet, but the goddess of ice will be tripping around Europe this summer on a rather extensive festival tour and should be coming stateside possibly as early as August. We'll let you know when we have confirmed dates on that.

Hush Records has come out with their very own Bjork tribute album entitled READ: Interpreting Bjork . Available as an 'eAlbum' for free download on the Hush website it includes covers of It's Oh So Quiet, Hyper-ballad, The Hunter, Joga, You've Been Flirting Again, Possibly Maybe, Immature, Unravel and In The Musicals. They do suggest you make a 2 dollar donation on the website via PayPal.

I've always assumed that BJORK sprouted into life or something equally hazy, somewhere in a mythical fairy land. Sure I realized she had a father, afterall someone had to be named Gudmund.

Bjork's mother, Hildur Runa Hauksdottir, has apparently taken to social activisim in Iceland. She is on a hunger strike to prevent Alcoa and the Icelandic government from creating a power plant and smelter (?) near the Vatnajokull glacier.
