Mew: 'Very Close' To Finishing New Album

The Danish trio spills the beans on their MySpace blog: *we are getting very close to having a finish record. everything comes from finland these days, it's cool there. actually, to be more exact when i say finish i really mean finished and when i say finished i reeeeally mean almost finished writing the record. we have thrown so much material away its sick, SICK. i have plus 200 recordings on my computer, perhaps 25 percent is stand up, the rest is straight to remix. we have now decided on a producer for the record and he was here in copenhagen for a few days recently. it was great to get started on those talks, discussions, arguments. for a couple of days we played and talked music, had indian food and shared one bottle of red wine. amazing. anyways all. hope you are all well.*MP3: Mew - Special (via SCO) - Source

Mew Return for Live Shows

Woohoo! Excellent's favorite Danes are finally heading back stateside for a full US tour (ok, well MY favorite Danes). Who are we talking about? Well MEW of course! Since this will mark the first time I'll be able to see their now legendary performance live show, I must wax poetic for a few minutes.

Who are mew? A Danish four three piece who stole my heart years ago with their amazing record Frengers. They followed up their first International release with And The Glass Handed Kites, a prog-rock masterpiece that has earned glowing reviews everywhere they turn. They will be striking out across North American soon with Kasabian so get your tickets now!

ps. For the next two weeks only you can buy the new Mew record from iTunes for only $6.99!

And the Glass Handed Kites!

I realize it isn't very exciting news to most people that a Danish band they've never heard of is finally releasing a record in America. I tell you, it IS brilliant news. You might not know MEW now, but you will... oh you will.

Enough of the foreboding know-it-all... Mew is a Danish 4-piece who have been wowing Europe for years now with their amazing progrock. The band released a record And The Glass Handed Kites to amazing acclaim last year (Drowned in Sound, Virgin Net, The Beat Surrender, Under The Radar, etc). Ok ok, so one of those glowing reviews was from me. There had been quite a bit of confusion among American fans eager to see Mew live and/or just be able to recommend a record to friends. August 11th, Mew will finally hit American record stores as the CD will see a release on Columbia Records.

In the meantime, you can hear some music on Mew's website or take a peek at the video for 'A Zookeeper's Boy' (Windows Media Broadband | 56k / Real Player Broadband | 56k).

A Few Fall Records

As the weather turns my thoughts turn to music. To be fair, my thoughts normally turn to music and I love having my seasons defined by records. While Teenage Fanclub, Todd Fancey and Bart Davenport saw me through the magical summer, a few talents have returned to entrance me as the leaves begin to fall.
