Audiogalaxy RIP

By shane

AUDIOGALAXY is done. Financially bereft of funds to fight their ongoing RIAA lawsuit, the beleagured file sharing site yesterday settled their suit and agreed to block ALL non-authorized titles. Which means that, though the site still remains up, you can no longer use the Audiogalaxy Satellite to download songs (except the very few authorized by record labels.)
An editorial note from Shane: our flags are flying at half mast today, as we at Excellent Online were big fans of Audiogalaxy (apart from the built-in spyware that ran underneath the satellite.) At its zenith, Audiogalaxy was a powerful system that rivaled Napster in terms of ease and track selection, and it's truly distressing to bid adieu to yet another file-sharing utility. I remain steadfast to my belief that file sharing, when done properly, is the greatest promotional tool an artist could hope to have. A compromise MUST be reached, as the pay-to-download services that have already launched are, quite simply, a joke. So with that, we bid a fond farewell to Audiogalaxy... and move right on the next file sharing utility.
