Coachella Announcement

By theajaysharma

The Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival was announced today. It's being described as a mini-Woodstock for the west coast except it actually has a good lineup of diverse artists. The headliners alone are totally mismatched: Beck, Chemical Brothers, Rage Against The Machine... and the oddest of all, Morrissey. Several sources close to the Morrissey camp, however, tell us that the show is NOT yet set in stone, though they are confirming that Morrissey is planning a world tour in the fall to promote a triple-DVD compilation of Smiths/Moz footage. The Coachella event will take during the weekend of October 9-10. Ticket prices or onsale dates have not been announced. It also features these excellent bands: DJ Shadow, Pavement, Ben Harper, Perry Farrell - Jubilee, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Cibo Matto, Gus Gus, Bis, Esthero, BT, Roni Size Break Beat Era, Money Mark, Jurrasic 5, Thievery Corporation, Modest Mouse, plus many, many more to be announced... perhaps the oddest offering on the advance line-up is the inclusion of Spiritualized, whose appearance seems questionable, given last month's news that frontman Jason Pierce has sacked the rest of the band and is starting over with virtually all-new musicians. Though it seems strange that this "new" Spiritualized will be ready to play by Oct., their name DOES appear on the Coachella slate at this time.
