Eight Dead at Roskilde Festival
July 01, 2000
Tragedy has struck at this weekend's ROSKILDE FESTIVAL in Denmark. At least 8 concert-goers were trampled and crushed to death at the front of the main stage during Pearl Jam's stint on Friday night. The band, only a few songs into the set, stopped the show and urged the crowd to move back, but it was too late. At least 26 people have been injured, and early wire reports show either 8 or 9 fatalities. Music365 reports that giant video screens over the stage showed a sobbing Eddie Vedder pleading for the crowd to move back, and quoted the singer as saying onstage, "I don't know if we could go on living if we knew someone had been hurt so bad."15
