Glasto Survives the Rain
...and just like that, the 2005 GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL is history. And, between the webcasts and early reviews pouring in, the fest was an all-around success. Highlights being thrown about:
- Both Coldplay and Basement Jaxx covering Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" as tribute to the cancer-striken star who had to cancel her headlining slot.
- Mani joining Ian Brown onstage at the end of his set, which was almost as cool as Brown and Bobby Gillespie donning a horse suit to trot out Keith Allen onstage for a chaotic "World in Motion" at the close of New Order's set.
- Jack and Meg channeling Satan for what some are calling a career-defining set from the White Stripes.
- Brian Wilson adding a touch of class to Sunday's Pyramid stage.
- Fatboy Slim finding a way to mix "Sunshine of Your Love," "Walk Like an Egyptian," and The Prodigy's "Out of Space" into one beast of a set.
- Pete Doherty clearly pointing out why "shambles" is a part of his band's name.
- Triumphant "we have officially arrived" sets from Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, and more.
Several of our listees were in attendance this year, and if we get some proper reviews submitted, we'll sort 'em out and put 'em on the site soon. And remember, the webcasts of 12 of the weekend's performers are still live on Playlouder.
