Is NME Against Napster?

By shane

Not news so much as a quick opinion from Shane this morning (and please realize that my views aren't necessarily those of this site - usually I keep my opinions to my columns, but this one is brief): Is it just me, or is NME decidedly AGAINST Napster? Over the past two weeks, NME has been seemingly trying to cause as much scuttlebutt as possible over the already controversial program. It started with their posts two weeks ago about advance Radiohead demos being all over Napster (of which there indeed are a few, but it's nowhere near the proportions NME is claiming.) Yesterday, they ran a news piece on rapper Busta Rhymes taking an anti-Napster stance, and made painfully clear that there were hundreds of Busta tracks available on Napster. And now today there's a news piece talking about a bootleg Britney Spears-Eminem white label megamix circulating... oddly, however, it doesn't mention a thing about the mix being created legally by a private American club/mobile DJ service (which it was,) but rather they ONLY point out that it's widely available via Napster. Now, nothing against the NME, they take enough flak as is, but doesn't it seem as though they're doing everything in their power to publicize only the controversial side of Napster? Just something to chew on for your Friday morning...
