Select and Melody Maker Fold
We're not going anywhere, folks. We feel like we need to tell you all this because it seems like music publications are dropping like flies this year. IPC Publications has just announced that MELODY MAKER will cease publication with its final holiday issue next week. Certain key elements of the Maker, along with some of the more established writers, will jump ship onto the Maker's sister paper NME. The closure comes simply days after SELECT also announced its folding. Many had predicted the Maker's demise following their ill-received switch to a color glossy earlier this year. It was obvious that the weekly paper was having hard times selling to the indie crowd, as it had been recently spotlighting more and more "mass appeal" artists like Limp Bizkit and Eminem. Despite its failing nature, we at Excellent Online would still like to offer our condolences to the writers and staff at the Maker, and offer a public wish for their future successes.
