Taking Drugs To Make Music To Get Arrested By: Spectrum Busted!
SPECTRUM have cancelled all remaining dates of their U.S. tour after a virtual disintegration of the band following a drug bust in North Carolina. Details of the bust are sketchy, but several members of the band, including Spectrum frontman Pete "Sonic Boom" Kember, were arrested for narcotics. This isn't much of a surprise given Kember's pro-drug history with Spectrum and his former band, Spacemen 3. What IS a surprise is the following post, sent from Spectrum touring drummer Cliff, to the Brian Jonestown Massacre mailing list. Now, please keep in mind that what you're about to read is one guy's side to this story, and we're not claiming that it's the truth. But it's certainly one of the most venomous posts we've seen in a long time, and could shed light onto the real reasons behind the tour's cancellation. Click MORE to see Cliff's rather interesting e-mail.

Subject: spectrum tour over! the story
the Spectrum tour is now over, collapsed into a heap of shit. we all got busted in North Carolina but that is not the answer. any of you that were at the last Los Angeles show at the garage, my apologies. one look at sonic boom-laden (as his ego became known on tour) up there on stage, alone, trying to pull off half assed "tribute" versions of his own songs and you can figure out what happened. We all wanted to play this show, in fact the whole band was at the gig, but pete's bruised ego would not allow that to happen. i'm sorry to anyone that paid money to see that shit. also i would like to apologize to all the people that tried to help us on this tour only to be fucked over by sonic's fucked up attitude, this includes every sound man, bartenders, most of the promoters, waiter/waitresses at most of the restaurants we stopped into, people we asked directions from, especially to the girl in Bloomingtin IN, you were neither Fat nor Stupid merely dealing with a very insecure person. and last but not least, every person in L.A & S.F. that went out of their way to help Peter Kember and got burned. we are sorry. we got tired of seeing how pete(sonic) treated people, and the tour is over.
