They Might Be a Swedish Superpower

Labrador Records announced today that they are buying Summersound Recordings of Stockholm. The two companies will merge into one, maintaining the name Labrador. "Labrador is better established abroad and has a strong visual identity in album covers, internet presence and promotional material," says Matthias Berglund.

Labrador's existing roster of bands includes: Acid House Kings, Cinammon, Club 8, Lasse Lindh, Leslies, Mondial, Tribeca, and more. Some of the Summersound artists that will be added to the lineup include Edson, Happydeadmen, Chasing Dorotea and Aerospace.

With this buyout, Labrador is ripe to gain ground on some of their European indie counterparts like Marsh-Marigold of Germany and Siesta in Spain. "We only release music we love. You can do that if you're working with the whole world as your market. We have small volumes on each market, but with enough markets we're able to sell more than most Swedish majors do," says Mattias Berglund.

"We share the same ideals, ideas and taste in music. This is a natural marriage," says Niklas Angergard from Summersound.
