Videos - Tripwire Acoustic Session With South

After following the UK group South from the days of their debut album, From Here On In, it was a real treat having the lads stop by for a Tripwire Acoustic Session. Stripped down to nothing more than two acoustic guitars, hearing songs from their latest album - Source

South @ Union Hall: Soul Receivers

Last night marked South's first stop on their 2008 North American trek. The British trio is touring in support of their forthcoming senior release, You Are Here. While the evening focused on the aforementioned LP, South found time to integrate a slew of favorites from earlier efforts (most notably 'Colours In Waves' & 'Shallow') throughout their 60 minute set. It's rather daunting to realize that I've been adoring South for close to a decade. While similar artists that emerged around the same time frame (Coldplay, Doves, Travis) have experimented greatly with their core sound, South has managed to stay true to their original framework. Each album since South's debut record, From Here On In, has been more captivating & gripping than its preceding release. Visit South at the band's official MySpace page. Enjoy a handful of photos, the setlist & an MP3 of 'Better Things' below.Setlist: Up Close & Personal. The Pain. Tell Me. Paint The Silence. Opened Up. Loosen Your Hold. Wasted. Better Things. Colours In Waves. Motiveless Crime. You Are One. Shallow.Encore: Dolphins. - Source

New South Video - "Better Things"

Welcome to the Office Of Better Things, where you can get a cure for your stinkiness, allergies, and inability to rock from UK OC grads sOuth (their big "o," not ours). Hmm, the latter ailment raises questions about the tepidness of this softy ballad, but we'll assume sOuth has the cure, is waiting to rawk elsewhere on their fifth album Who You Are. For now, "Better Things"'s clever Jeff Tomsic-video adds details to a track that might've otherwise wafted past without leaving much of an impression. - Source

South Announce US Dates, Remix Radiohead

South came to the States back in March for SXSW and a few coastal performances, which left out a good chunk of their fans. Fortunately the band will return to North America on April 26 to play Brooklyn, and finishing up May 15 in Los Angeles - Source

We got to spend a little time with Joel Cadbury and Jamie McDonald here in Austin a few weeks ago - Source

South - San Diego, CA 4/26/06

It's not very often you get to see the members of 3 bands on stage drop their pants at the end of their set and sing New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle" while the audience realizes they're all wearing the same underwear: pink boyshorts with the South logo on them. Such was the case tonight at the Casbah in San Diego.

Review by Jason

Almost 2 years to the day and South is back in San Diego.

First, props to South for not skipping us like Elbow did this time around. Bastards.

Second, I knew they would have improved this time! Yay! Hooray! I'll get to that in a few.

South Postpone US Tour

SOUTH have postponed their entire forthcoming US tour due to injury. South guitarist Jamie McDonald has broken his wrist while playing football on Sunday. He was later admitted to hospital for emergency surgery, and has been advised that he will be unable to play guitar for the next 8 to 10 weeks as he recovers. The band hope to reschedule the tour as soon as McDonald's condition is better known.

South Update

Ryan sent in a SOUTH update. They won't be releasing their 'Nothing Personal EP' and are choosing instead to work on their follow up to 'From Here on In'. In exchange for a new EP, they're offering up a new track, 'Out in a Day', that you can download from their site, www.south.co.uk. They have some other cool stuff on their download page too, like an instrumental remix of IAN BROWN's 'Dolphins Were Monkeys'.
