Orbital has been a favorite of mine ever since I found electronic dance music.  I loved Duran Duran when I was a kid because of my older sister.  Then my brother introduced me to the Smiths and Stone Roses.  He and I found electronic music together in the mid-90's (we argue about it to this day, he bought Prodigy after seeing the video for Poison, I bought the Orb after seeing them on the cover of NME for UFOrb).

In 1996, there was no Glastonbury so several of the electronic acts came out to the US to support the new "electronica" movement.  I went for the Orb but soon discovered Orbital, Underworld and the Chemical Brothers.  Orbital was the big breakout act for me because of Organic and I've seen then a dozen times.  One of the highlights of my life was getting to see them at Glastonbury in 1999, a truely amazing experience. 

Around 10pm last Thursday, right after the Swell Season played, "When Your Mind's Made Up", a man jumped off the roof and fell to his death about three feed from lead singer Glen Hansard.  Glen walked over to the man, not knowing what happened, and then quickly left the stage.  A doctor in the audience attempted CPR but was unsuccessful.  The band has issued a statement regarding the tragedy:  "The band, crew and all involved with them are shocked and saddened by the unfortunate events of last night. Their hearts go out to the victim and his friends and family."

Glen Hansard and  Markéta Irglová  surprise indie-rock Oscar win likely had a lot to do with a trio of Tony-winning producers acquiring Once's live theater rights so they could bring the flick to Broadway (possibly for the 2010-2011 season). Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick have been tapped to play the leads. - Source
