New South Video - "Better Things"

Welcome to the Office Of Better Things, where you can get a cure for your stinkiness, allergies, and inability to rock from UK OC grads sOuth (their big "o," not ours). Hmm, the latter ailment raises questions about the tepidness of this softy ballad, but we'll assume sOuth has the cure, is waiting to rawk elsewhere on their fifth album Who You Are. For now, "Better Things"'s clever Jeff Tomsic-video adds details to a track that might've otherwise wafted past without leaving much of an impression. - Source

Something's Shocking: Eric Avery Decides He Can Deal With Being In Jane's Addiction For One Night

After the success of his great Lolla lineup, Perry Farrell has something else to hoot about: Original Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery has agreed to play a show with the band for the first time since 1991. Yes, right around the time "punk broke." It's for the U.S. NME Awards at the El Rey Theatre in L.A on 4/23, where the guys are receiving the "Godlike Genius Award." Past UK Godlike winners include The Clash, New Order, Primal Scream and Manic Street Preachers (UK). NME's reasoning for giving it to JA:

[They've] done more than any other band to introduce American alternative music to the mainstream, founding the touring Lollapalooza Festival and giving what frontman Perry Farrell refers to as the 'alternative nation' a real cultural focus and voice.

Before this Avery's rejected the idea of a reunion to work on his own post-Addiction sounds, a la Help Wanted, released a week ago on Dangerbird. Yeah, we've barely heard of it either. Smart p.r. move, Avery! We kid. Actually, he makes good level-headed sense in his blog post about the decision: - Source

New Charlatans Video - "The Misbegotten"

As previously reported, the Charlatans are giving away their new album. Yes, it's free. Same with the fish-eyed Douglas Hart-directed video for first single "You Cross My Path." The grainy walkabout was shot throughout Los Angeles with ageless frontman Tim Burgess, his iPod, much air punching and finger pointing, that peerless bowl cut, and a stuffed raccoon. Also, right smack dab in the middle, note that TB's already pondering "the end." Not sure why, it's a solid track. - Source

Swervedriver Plan More Gigs, Film School Supports

They've been away for so long, but alt-rockers Swervedriver are making up for their absence with the addition of even more reunion tour dates, including a run of shows at the end of May with Film School. However, the current list of Swervedriver dates still doesn't quite match the original promise of a full-blown world tour, so let's hope the band has a few shows still stuck in its flannel sleeves. - Source

Radiohead's Best Of DVD Worth Picking Up

Although the actual audio content from EMI's forthcoming Radiohead "Best Of" compilation isn't going to matter much to diehard fans, the DVD will actually be quite nice to have. It will feature several music videos that have been previously unavailable on DVD. - Source
