Paul McCartney To Release Epic Unheard Beatles Track?

This has been an exciting couple of weeks for Beatles fanatics (everyone should be fans, we're talking true fanatics). What, with the auctioning of the rarest Beatles album of all time last week on eBay (the bid currently stands at a shade over £6,000.00--the reserve has not been met however) and now the possible release of a "never before heard" Beatles song from 1967? - Source

Progress Report: Midlake

We rarely conduct interviews at Stereogum. Bands inevitably answer the same questions over and over again, and that's no fun for anyone. But if we could catch our favorite musicians between album promo cycles, they might have new insights to share, whether they're in creative mode or just taking a breather. With that in mind, we asked Jessica Suarez to put on her reporter's hat and pen this new recurring feature.

Twice a week, Jessica Suarez's Progress Report updates you on what your favorite bands have been doing. Or not doing. Today we check in with the Denton folk-rockers behind one of the best albums of 2006.

New Secret Machines Video - "Atomic Heels"

No secret, Benjamin Curtis has pushed on to dreamier pastures with his excellent new project School Of Seven Bells. Choosing to make music with the Deheza twins instead of his own brother, Brandon, has been a good decision for his art, although we're left to assess how its effected Secret Machines, who continue manufacturing their psych/prog/rock/whathaveyou with the other Curtis, Ben Garza and replacement guitarist Phil Karnats on the recently released Secret Machines LP. "Atomic Heels" is the collection's first single, now affixed to a neon-hued, flickering video, and at least for this dark-hearted pop burst, things seem alright. It starts with a gothic stomp, loses some steam in the early verses, but eventually builds into a fully realized rocker with a lofty hook, British Invasion backing vocals, and Karnats finding a home in the mesh with pinging, textural guitar lines. When all the parts congeal, it earns its "Atomic" feel. - Source
