New Basement Jaxx Video - "Raindrops"
As we mentioned a ways back, "Raindrops" is a triumphant (and awesomely campy) return for Basement Jaxx. On the psychedelic anthem's forthcoming home Scars we're told to expect guest vocals from Grace Jones, Yoko Ono, Yo! Majesty, Lightspeed Champion, Cyndi Lauper, Santigold, and etc., but the track features Felix Buxton ably holding down the mic. The kaleidoscopic video doesn't include any visual Buxton, but does make room for an array of body paint, masks, arty crotch shots, and over-the-top choreography. It's pushing a Flaming Creatures/Pink Narcissus vibe, and might be NSFW, but in a modern dance kind of way.Continue reading New Basement Jaxx Video - "Raindrops"... - Source

NME has announced plans today for a new War Child charity record to follow in the footsteps of the acclaimed "Help" record of several years ago. Bands who have agreed to participate are to go into studio between now and the first week of September to lay down a cover of their choice, provided it was a former UK #1 song. The disc will be released in October to coincide with the 50th birthday of NME and the anniversary of the first UK pop music chart. Bands already confirmed to appear include: OASIS, MANIC STREET PREACHERS, STEREOPHONICS, BADLY DRAWN BOY, STARSAILOR, FEEDER, JIMMY EAT WORLD, BASEMENT JAXX, and MS. DYNAMITE, with more to be announced as the project nears completion.

Mayan
Basement Jaxx have only DJ'ed in the US. This was their big "live show" and there were claims of a 9-piece band coming along for the tour. I hate electronic acts with bands backing them up, it pretty much always crap (see BT). Some of the "mainstream" people might like the fact that there's a real drummer there, but I perfer to just have a few guys behind some decks playing music (Orbital, Chemical Brothers, and Underworld are perfect examples). It turns out that Basement Jaxx's band was array of singers and one guy on bongo's, which was totally sweet.
Mercury Music Prize Drama
Radio 1 announced the Mercury Music Prize nominations yesterday. They included, Basement Jaxx, Turin Breaks, Gorillaz, Super Furry Animals, Goldfrapp, Elbow, and Radiohead.
Then the Gorillaz refuse the nomination. Murdoc said, "Mercury Award? Sounds a bit heavy, man! You know - like carrying a dead albatross round your neck for eternity. No thanks man!"
And today the band's label, Parlophone, said that since they put the Gorillaz in the race, only they can pull them out.
