Odds and Ends: Listen to MGMT & National, Elliott Smiths Fans Are Upset, Beck Covers INXS, and more...

Here's some of the stuff I've seen over the week that's kinda interesting but not interesting enough for me to clog up your RSS feed, twitter account or Facebook page over.

  • MGMT's new album was leaked so they decided to stream the whole thing from their site.  Enjoy.
  • The National's new album, High Violet, will be released on May 11th.  You can grab a track from the record, "Bloodbuzz Ohio" on highviolet.com.
  • Larry Crane is a longtime friend of Elliot Smith and he's in the process of remastering Smith's debut album, Roman CandleFans are upset over an album that no one has heard, but I can see why.  It's something that should be preserved, faults and all.
  • Beck, St. Vincent & the Liars have covered INXS's popular "Kick" album in a day.  They are releasing one song a week from their project, first up is "Guns in the Sky".
  • The BBC reviews Jonsi's new album, Go.  I like the intro:  "His voice remains one of modern music's most readily identifiable instruments".
  • Iggy Pop will no longer stage dive after the audience failed to catch him at New York's Carnegie Hall.

Beck Covers Sonic Youth, Sonic Youth Covers Beck

On a Record Store Day exclusive split 7" that was nowhere to be found by the time I got to Other Music, Beck covered EVOL cut "Green Light" and The Sonik Youth returned the favor with a take on Mellow Gold dirge "Pay No Mind (Snoozer)." (The sales climb high through the garbage-pail sky/ like a giant dildo crushing the sun..., you remember.) Matador printed twenty five hundred copies, which means dozens are currently available to you on eBay. If you missed out, or aren't into getting scalped, you can listen to "Green Light" below.Continue reading Beck Covers Sonic Youth, Sonic Youth Covers Beck... - Source

Beck Microsite

I just downloaded the new BECK microsite and it's pretty cool. Here are the links for the PC version and the Mac version. For the Windows version, just download it and run through the very quick installer and you'll end up with a Beck icon on your desktop. Make sure to adjust the playlist in the "Music" section so you can listen to the whole album.

The Flaming Lips to Support Beck

Nick sent in the bit of info that the Flaming Lips will be Beck's supporting band on his upcoming tour. Beck will be touring in support of his acoustic album, "Sea Change". The Flaming Lips will also be opening the show with their own material before Beck joins them onstage. You can currently see the Flaming Lips on the Ultimate Sunshine tour. I just saw them last week and it was fantastic! The headliner, Cake, took the second to last spot to give the Lips, "more darkness for their audio/visual show". Finally, if you haven't heard their performance on KCRW, head on over there with your Realplayer and check it out. I don't want to give anything away but their first song is a cover of Radiohead's "Knives Out"

Coachella #1

For the past few years, the Tibetan Freedom Concert has arguably been the United States live music event of the year. This year, however, the COACHELLA FESTIVAL seems destined to be the event to remember. The show, which is October 9-10 at Coachella Valley, near Palm Springs, features a lineup including UNDERWORLD, BECK, THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS, SUPER FURRY ANIMALS, GUS GUS, and CIBO MATTO, just to name a few. The event also features a good deal of intrigue. The U.S. debut of the new SPIRITUALIZED live lineup is bound to be interesting.
