JAMC Back in the US, DJ Shadow Comp, and Go Buy the Ride Reissue!

My first post-Coachella update.  Looking back it was a pretty damn good festival, probably one of the best ones as far as how well it was organized.  The best year for music is too hard to determine.  It might be my last one as I'm just tired of the allergies and now with the two weekends of Coachella and all the local shows, it's not worth the hassle.  In anycase, here are this week's updates.  Enjoy!

Wilco/Yo La Tengo @ KeySpan Park, Coney Island 7/13/09

In a few days the city's indie kids will make their way out to Coney Island for the Voice's annual Siren festival, chances are many of the same kids who made the trek last night to see Tweedy and Yo La and surprise guests Feist and Ed Droste at KeySpan Park last night. Wilco welcomed openers Yo La (whose set pulled from their fantastic new Popular Songs LP, along with some "Autumn Sweater" and the like) onstage for "Spiders (Kidsmoke)," a few songs after Cyclone buddies Leslie and Droste joined the band on "You & I." It was the second time Feist performed the (The Album) collab live, the third coming tonight with Wilco's scheduled Letterman performance. Photographer Natasha Ryan is one of those who practiced her Siren commute by taking in last night's stellar KeySpan bill, so enjoy her shots while setting your DVR for CBS at 11:35PM tonight. Here's Wilco's setlist: Continue reading Wilco/Yo La Tengo @ KeySpan Park, Coney Island 7/13/09... - Source

Wilco Vs. Wilco: Jay Bennett Sues Jeff Tweedy Over Royalties

Join the band. Argue. Make up. Break up. The cycle used to end there, but former Wilco member Jay Bennett is adding a new phase -- the law suit. He's taking Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy to court to recoup money he claims he's owed from his years in the band. - Source

Heroes Taps Wilco, Death Cab, My Morning Jacket, The Jesus & Mary Chain For Soundtrack

Heroes doesn't normally give us a lot of reasons to mention it, as pop music is rarely incorporated into their scenes about staving off the apocalypse. There was that one time where some girls were double-dutching to M.I.A.'s "Boyz" (before Kala became the Reminder of dance music) but that hardly seemed worth a post. Usually the deepest we go with the show here is when Peter Patrelli turns up in Fergie videos.

But apparently none of that really matters when it comes to compiling the show's soundtrack, because it's hella cool and hella full of stuff that has absolutely no connection to the narrative (okay, Bowie's "Heroes" is a logical inclusion). The key question for OST compilers these days seems to be "what will make us appear cooler" -- and in Heroes' case, they've succeeded here, most notably scoring the Jesus & Mary Chain's first studio recording in a decade ("All Things Must Pass") and a new and exclusive tune from Wilco, "Glad It's Over." That's in addition to previously unreleased tunes from Imogen Heap, Brighton Port Authority (feat. Iggy Pop), and Panic At The Disco, as reported by Billboard. To throw more coolness at you: there's a tune from the Chemical Brothers (feat. Spank Rock) and oldies from Dylan, My Morning Jacket, Death Cab, the New Pornographers, do you really need us to go on? It's out 3/18 on, what else, NBC Records. Check the tracklist: - Source

Franz Ferdinand on Austin City Limits

I was flipping around the schedule for my MythTV machine and found out that FRANZ FERDINAND was playing on the PBS show, Austin City Limits. Looking at their upcoming schedule, they have a bunch of cool acts coming up like PIXIES, WILCO, POLYPHONIC SPREE, THE FLAMING LIPS and the SHINS. Check your local listings...

Bragg and Wilco

NME is reporting this weekend that BILLY BRAGG has confirmed that he and WILCO will be recording yet another album of Woody Guthrie tracks. The thing is, WE told you about this last week in our Billy Bragg feature. Yeah, "Brag(g)" may indeed be the word of the day.
