New Spoon Video - "You Got Yr Cherry Bomb"

Continuing today's early theme of animated videos, Spoon's Double Triple & Ryan Junell-directed "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" features a patterned land of floating light bulbs and drums, construction paper lightning, clapping hands (real and fake), a little 'c'mon' and 'huh' action (duh, it's Spoon), and stiff ladies. If you stick around long enough, there's even real-life Britt checking out what's in the fridge.

The producers describe the process: "It's a 3 minute stop-motion animation of paper cutouts done by hand and sequenced on a computer." Want to make your own? Look at the pretty behind-the-scenes stills here. Get to it, lazybones. - Source

New Jarvis Cocker - "Girls Like It Too" (Live in Buenos Aires)

Looks like we have to go all the way to Argentina to hear the new cheekily titled Cocker tune, "Girls Like It Too." Or, let somebody else go and check their YouTube. (Thanks for the tip, Lucas.) Jarvis knows his audience and surroundings well, peppering the background info on the boy/girl narrative with Argentinean slang terms, "chabon" and "mina." See, the chabon is really drunk and can't remember what happened, if anything. "Or, if it did happen, it certainly didn't last very long," quoth the Cocker. Then comes the anthem. (Wow, we just had a lot of unintended innuendo there.) - Source

Premature Evaluation: The Breeders - Mountain Battles

We've already given a few hints about our feelings for Mountain Battles, the Breeders' first album since Title TK. In case you missed it before: We're basically blown away that Kim and Kelly sound so fresh after -- relatively speaking -- so long. Mountain Battles was recorded over a number of years, across locales, and with different producers (Steve Albini, Erika Larson, Manny Nieto), and languages (German, English, Spanish), but it impressively sounds cohesive and whole. We like some songs less or more than others, but there're no duds. Basically, the Deal sisters, along with Title TK players drummer Jose Medeles and bassist Mando Lopez. have returned to form to school any number of indistinguishable indie upstarts. Listen up indistinguishable indie upstarts. - Source
