Paul McCartney Engaged to be Married

Straight from the AP Wire, Paul McCartney's going to marry the former swimwear model, Heather Mills. McCartney proposed on Monday and they will get married sometime next year.

Mercury Music Prize Drama

Radio 1 announced the Mercury Music Prize nominations yesterday. They included, Basement Jaxx, Turin Breaks, Gorillaz, Super Furry Animals, Goldfrapp, Elbow, and Radiohead.

Then the Gorillaz refuse the nomination. Murdoc said, "Mercury Award? Sounds a bit heavy, man! You know - like carrying a dead albatross round your neck for eternity. No thanks man!"

And today the band's label, Parlophone, said that since they put the Gorillaz in the race, only they can pull them out.

Start the Starsailor Bashing

NME is reporting that Mogwai and Ash have started to bash Starsailor for their success in England. Stuart Braithwaite from Mogwai said that Walsh would "rape his own granny" to achieve fame. Starsailor's next single, "Alcoholic", is out on September 17th and their album, "Love Is Here", will be out on October 8th. The full tracklisting is inside.

Ian Brown Remixes the Manics

Ian Brown will be remixing the next Manic Street Preachers single, "Let Robeson Sing". NME reports that he's going to bring in Aziz Ibrahim and Inder Goldfinger to help, and Brown will provide the vocals.

Dodgy's Dodgy New Album

Dodgy are getting ready to release their fourth album, "Real Estate", on July 23rd. It will be released on their own Bostin label and the entire album has been funded by their fans. They managed to raise 10,000 pounds by sending donations through the official site.

Un-rip-able CDs In Stores Now

Over at News.com they have an article about how several major labels have been quietly shipping new copy-protected CDs for the past few months. The CDs will play fine in your CD player but if you try to rip the disc onto your PC, the tracks will be filled with "clicks and pops". There's no mention of specific titles with the new technology.

Lollapalooza 2 *cough* I mean, Jubilee Festival

Janes Addiction have reformed again and will be touring the US in August. NME is reporting that the tour will be a festival titled, "Jubilee", which includes Stereo MC's, Weezer, and Live. The tour dates will be online as soon as they are finalized.

Napster Ditches the MP3 Format

Napster has been in the news quite a bit this past week. First the service goes offline to upgrade the server software and never comes back online. Then the courts say that the service must stay offline until it can promise to block 100% of the copyrighted songs. The very next day, they settle the lawsuit with Metallica and Dr. Dre.

New Order 'covers' Joy Division

According to Radio Undercover, New Order will be putting a live version of the Joy Division classic, "Atmosphere", on their upcoming single, "Crystal". Recently New Order have added "Heart and Soul" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" to their live show. You can see them at the Area One Festival this summer.

There is a new b-side streaming from the official Bjork site. "Verandi" will be release August 6th on the upcoming single "Hidden Place". This is the first single from her new album, "Vespertine", which you can buy on August 23rd.
