Lou Reed & Moby Perform "Walk On The Wild Side"
At different times and for different reasons, everybody in Austin seemed to be talking about Lou Reed and Moby this year: It was Lou's year to be honored with keynote speaker status, and the FADER Fort hosted its own version of a tribute, calling Mark Kozelek, My Morning Jacket, Yo La Tengo, and others to cover Lou's tunes to free-liquor fed, dinner-skipping crowd. As for Moby, well like we said, he's newly resurgent, our DJ friends' consensus pick for Most Improved Player.
Anyway about that Lou Reed tribute: We brought you the pics a few days ago, but now the FADER folks have upped Lou's only performance: fittingly, a duet with fellow South By buzz boy Moby on one of those Reed tunes every single person in the audience was sure to know. - Source
Stream Sun Kil Moon's April
We brought you to Mark Kozelek's "Moorestown" last month. Now, as Spring approaches, it's time to dig more deeply into April over at Sun Kil Moon's MySpace. After initial listens, we're especially digging the Oldham guest spots, "Blue Orchids," and, again, "Moorestown" (Sorry, Cherry Hill). Again, April is out 4/1 on Kozelek's Caldo Verde.
While you're over at Caldo Verde, check out the new "comprehensive edition" of Kozelek's Nights of Passed Over, which is also out 4/1. The label's deets:
Originally released in Portugal (2002), this updated, hardback, all-English edition includes Kozelek's lyrics from the Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon/Mark Kozelek albums and special edition compilations, as well as several concert set lists and handwritten lyrics, plus a new preface by Kozelek himself.
It's available in an edition of 2,500, which comes with a 12-song bonus CD, Nights LP, with live and rare versions of MK tunes from '96-'07. - Source
New Spiritualized - "Soul On Fire"
J Spaceman Pierce's lazer guided melodies are pretty Flaming Lips-y on "Soul On Fire," a new tune from Spiritualized's forthcoming Songs In A&E, the first album since 2003's Amazing Grace. ("Soul On Fire" also keeps making us think of Sebadoh's "Soul And Fire," for what it's worth.) The track premiered yesterday on BBC 1's Zane Lowe show, which explains the effusive dialog toward the song's final movement (Zane kinda sounds like he has a movement, too, actually). Do you like your music to be far-reaching and epic? Yeah, us too. Step into the breeze and listen at Deaf Indie Elephants. (Thanks, YiYo.) - Source

Kurt Cobain Pushing Shoes From The Great Beyond, One More Time
We are constantly reminded of how much dead musicians love advertising footwear. Just recently Ian Curtis and Sid Vicious got in the game, and before that Kurt was unsuccessfully appropriated by Doc Martens. Well if you've been waiting since then 'til now to finally have some Cobain-y shoes, get ready to go running grunge fans: The Daily Swarm has images of the new Courtney Love-approved Cobain Converse. They're coming soon -- in more than one diaristic style! -- to a mall near you. The sneaks are part of Converse's 100th Anniversary and their "Welcome To The Converse Century" campaign. Smells like Odor Eaters to us, but then again, as morbid as it is, he was wearing One Stars when he died, so at least we know he liked the product. (That's called a silver lining.) Remember kids, "Punk rock means freedom" ... and posthumous endorsement deals from your creepy wife. - Source
