Monday Wrapup: Arcade Fire, Lou Reed, Daft Punk, Girls, XX, Prodigy, Joy Division and Scalpers
November 22, 2010
I'm having more fun writing these summaries, I think I found my new format. Now if I can only put this together quicker I might do it daily instead of sporatically. Anyway, lots of links in this one, enjoy!
- Watch Arcade Fire's video for "The Suburbs" directed by Spike Jonze
- Lou Reed made a 28-minute film about his 102 year-old cousin.
- "This project is by far the most challenging and complex thing we have ever been involved with.", Thomas Bangalter (1/2 of Daft Punk) talking about the Tron Soundtrack. You can listen to clips from each song on the soundtrack which is out on December 7th.
- Remember that band Girls? They had that insanely catchy song, Lust for Life, and were pretty good earlier this year at Coachella. They are apparently rushing out the next record to get back on the road. If you're keeping track, they are doing what most bands seems to do in order to keep their name out there. My message to them would be, "Take your time. Make a great record. We won't forget you in a couple of years. But you will be forgotten if you make a crap record."
- OMD cover The xx. The Gorillaz cover the xx. The xx are pretty awesome yet super boring live so maybe OMD and the Gorillaz can spice it up.
- Explosions in the Sky will release a new album in the spring of next year and they already have a few UK dates in May, 2011. This is their first record since 2007's "All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone." Why don't they get together with Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor and do a super-noise-tour?
- Download the Prodigy remix of Jay-Z's '99 Problems'. Man, I used to LOVE Prodigy. Jilted Generation is one of the greatest albums of all time, but they've just become so shit this past decade.
- Hey, remember that really dope song, "Round and Round", by Ariel Pink? Wayne Coyne directed a video for it and it's pretty damn trippy. Great song though, too bad the album is pretty bad.
- Slicing up Eyeballs talks to Peter Hook about his upcoming Joy Division 'Unknown Pleasures' tour and the recent breakup of his supergroup, Freebass, and life in New Order.
- Three dudes in California hired Bulgarian programmers to build a network of computers across the country to flood online ticket vendors (think Ticketmaster). They were able to fool Ticketmaster into thinking that a ton of individual people from all over the country were buying tickets. Then they'd sell them through their Wiseguy Tickets company. They have now been arrested and pled guilty. There's a 4th guy that's still at large.
-
Cut Copy have released a track from their upcoming album Zonoscope called, "Take Me Over". They have some Eurpoean dates scheduled for March 2011, hopefully a US tour will follow.
